Changsha Children’s Welfare Institute, founded in 1951, is located in No. 335, the third part of Furong Middle Road. It covers an area of 27.2 mu. The main members of the institute are orphans, disabled children and abandoned children of Changsha. There are 485 orphans, disabled children and abandoned children in the institute now and 95 percent of them are the children who have cerebral palsy，mental retardation and other diseases. The institute provides fostering, medical care, recovery training and mental health guidance to children for making them grow up happily like other children.

Insisting on the guideline of “ Try to treat the children, try to bring up the children, try to make the children recovered and educated. ” and the working doctrine of “ building the basic for children’s whole life ”, the institute has established the bed-ward of love for children and owned more than 30 professional medical employees who will offer all the children of institute examination and treatment timely and will also offer them nice service such as fostering, care, recovery training and education. The institute has successfully helped more than 2,000 orphans and disabled children recovered since found. The institute has also started cooperation on some items such as medical treatment, nurture, the expansion of community for disabled children, family fostering with foreign adoptive agencies and charity organizations and highly improved the nurture and recovery treatment to the disabled children.

According to the fostering pattern of “ To adopt children first, and then send them to the foster families, finally provide them care by the institute. ”, the institute has been actively looking for the foster families for children who are suitable to be adopted based on their age, health condition. For these years, more than 1,000 children have been adopted by domestic or foreign families. And so they will have opportunity to own a stable family and enjoy normal family life. Changsha Children’s Welfare Institute has got a big progress in every one field with the efforts that the staff of institute made. Now the institute has become the Children’s Rehabilitation Guidance Centre of Changsha City and meanwhile it is the first class welfare institute of Hunan Province and the second class welfare institute of China.
